Oorzaak: built in 1889 by petroleum steamship co. owned at time of loss by oswald, maurdaunt & co.passage from liverpool for queenstown. triple expansion engine of 271nhp for 9 knots. passage liverpool for queenstow. torpedoed. six lost. (dods & ww1sl). torpedoed by u-91.positional analysis: the wreck lies 3.6nm south of the position in war losses (1990), which is almost identical to the master's position (tna adm137/1514). the u-boat ktb position plots 10.8nm nw of the wreck.archival analysis: the ship was hit on the starboard side by no4 tank and immediately bent into a "v” shape. it was abandoned, but not seen tosink. it was later reported to have sunk 20 minutes after being hit. the vessel was known to buckle in heavy weather (tnaadm 137/1514).

STANDS ABOUT 8MTRS HIGH. HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED BY THE BELL INSCRIBED 'GLANWERN 1882', RECOVERED IN 2002. (A CORKILL, VIA D STEAD, LTR DTD 11.04). NCA.Archival details: MANCHESTER (ex-GLANWERN 1882) sank in a collision in 1905 at a position which plots 22nm north of this wreck (BOT1905,p134). The ship was 64.64m x 9.14m (Lloyd's Register 1883). WRECK CONSISTENT WITH BEING A TANKER, SHOWING WHAT APPEARS TO BE CYLINDRICAL TANKS IN ITS STRUCTURE. IT ALSO SHOWS FEATURES DESCRIBED IN THE SINKING (SPLIT AMIDSHIPS AND DAMAGE ON STBD SIDE). THIS WRECK IS CONSISTENT IN DIMENSIONS OF THAT OF "BRITISH VISCOUNT". (INNES MCCARTNEY BOOK "ECHOES FROM THE DEEP"). UPDATE "BRITISH VISCOUNT" AND ATTRIBUTES.
